TALENT SHOW 4/3 & 4/5

Burgess Has Got Talent Show 2024!

Hello Burgess Families!

We are excited to announce that we will be holding the Burgess Has Talent talent show again this year!  As we did last year, there will be one show for students in grades K-3, and one show for students in grades 4-6.

Live Performance Format:

  • Parents or Guardian will fill out the form completely.  For acts with multiple children, a separate form should be filled out for each child.
  • Acts should be no longer than 2 minutes.
  • Any act requiring music is responsible for sending the music cut to the correct time in mp3 or mp4 format to corthelld@tantasqua.org
  • Every act will be required to attend one rehearsal.
  • Each act will be assigned one of the rehearsal dates listed below and a 15-minute rehearsal window.  We will do our best to meet everyone’s preferences indicated on the registration form but will fill time slots first come first serve.  Acts should be accompanied by a parent/guardian, and will not be able to stay at rehearsal outside of their designated window.
  • Two separate performances will be held.  Grades K-3 will perform on Wednesday, April 3rd  from 6:00 – 7:30 and grades 4-6 will perform on Friday, April 5th from 6:00 – 7:30.  *Note* if the number of participants is drastically unbalanced some third or fourth grade acts may be moved to the other show.
  • Each show will be live-streamed to the Burgess YouTube channel.  This will also post the recording to the channel so family and friends can watch it at any time.
  • Each family will be able to purchase tickets to attend the show.  The number of tickets allotted to each family will depend on the number of acts.  More information about tickets will be sent out to the families of registered acts after the registration deadline.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MS. FORNI’S 5TH GRADE CLASS!

Congratulations to Ms. Forni’s 5th grade class at Burgess Elementary School for beating out 1000 other entrants for one of the twelve coveted spots on Massachusetts DOT snow plows. The class came up with the slogan that was selected by Mass DOT staff. This truck is officially designated the “Snolar Express.” We were joined today in Sturbridge with Amanda Hellier from Senator Fattman’s office to bring citations on behalf of Senator Fattman and Representative Smola, along with the Massachusetts Secretary of Transportation, Monica Tibbits, and Sturbridge Selectwoman Mary Dowling. Thank you to Principal Kathy Pelley and Assistant Principal Paul Guerin for hosting! And a thanks to the Mass DOT team who had the truck sparkling and ready for the first of the twelve awards statewide!

AFTER SCHOOL STEM PROGRAM

Hi Families!

I hope that 2024 is off to a good start for you and your family!

I am excited to announce that we are running a second session of after-school STEM.   Burgess was awarded an ASOST grant through the United Way for the purpose of running an after-school STEM program for students in Grades K-6!  I am equally excited to share that we are adding Kindergarten to the program.  This program will be provided free of charge to families.

  • Students will be grouped by grade level (K, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6).  Space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • There will be one more session after this, a spring session that runs April – May.

  • You will only be registering your child for Session Two at this time.

  • Session Two dates are as follows:

    • Wednesday, January 31st

    • Wednesday, February 7th

    • Wednesday, February 14th

    • Wednesday, February 28th

    • Wednesday, March 6th

    • Wednesday, March 13th

  • Classes will run from 3:00 – 4:30.  Families are responsible for transportation at 4:30.  Students who currently attend BED on Wednesdays can be dismissed by BED staff.

  • Students should bring a snack that they will be able to eat while working.

  • Units of study are as follows:

    • Kindergarten – Structure and Function – Exploring Design

    • Grades 1-2 – Properties of Matter

    • Grades 3-4 – Energy Exploration

TRYLAX COACHES NEEDED

Hello grade 1/2 & 3/4 parents,
TRYLax is in need of coaches at these two grade levels (specific details below).
We know what many of you might be thinking….”I don’t know anything about lacrosse” or “I never played lacrosse.” We understand because that is what many of our current coaches said at one time!
MYL makes many resources available to help new coaches, including videos, a coaching clinic and the upcoming lacrosse convention. Both offer helpful information and hands on experiences to help you learn and better understand the sport. TRYLax coaching guides are being developed and we hope to make them available soon (although this may not be in time for the start of the season).
The following coaches are needed in order for us to be able to have teams at these grade levels:
Head Coaches
Girls 1/2
Boys 1/2
Assistant Coaches
Girls 1/2
Girls 3/4
Boys 1/2
Please contact our coaching director, Joe Garjian, at trylaxcoaching@gmail.com to volunteer or if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Tara Linton, TRYLax VP/Communications

Jog-A-Thon 2022-2023

Hello Bears!

We have begun our BIGGEST fundraiser of the year.  It’s time to get Movin’ and to do your part to help us with our Jog-a-Thon campaign! Our goal is to raise $60,000 to provide improvements to our playgrounds, sun shades, and continue to support field trips and enrichments for our students.

This is a big goal, and we know we will need EVERYONE to help.  This project will provide for safer places for children to play on a playground that is used by the entire community, year round.  It also allow us to fund literacy and cultural arts enrichments, field trips, staff support and more. To view our YouTube video that we made about our cause, click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiKdnmib-n4
