Tantasqua Summer Camps

A message from TANTASQUA REG SCHOOL UNION 61

Summer Camps 2021

Tantasqua Families-

We are planning on offering a limited amount of Summer Camps this year to our community, while following all the state and local BOH guidelines for Covid safety procedures and summer camps.  Both “All Sports” and “Arts & Crafts” camps will be offered all 6 weeks. (No other camps will be offered this summer but we plan a full return next year for the summer of 2022)

Days: Mondays-Thursdays (except the week of July 6-9 is Tuesday-Friday)

Time: 8:30 am – 3:00 pm daily (No “extended day camp” this year)

Enrollment: For students entering grades 2-8 in the fall of 2021, campers must be enrolled in a Union 61 Elementary School or Tantasqua Junior High School.

Cost: $115/camper/week

Week 1: June 28-July 1

Week 2: July 6-9 (Tuesday-Friday due to the holiday)

Week 3: July 12-15

Week 4: July 19-22

Week 5: July 26-29

Week 6: August 2-5

Many of our Covid safety procedures will be similar to the ones used in our schools:

  • Counselors and campers must wear masks at all times except in the pool and at lunch

  • Campers will be seated 6’ apart at lunches

  • Campers will be grouped into “pods” for the week based on age with the same counselors and campers daily

  • We will have use of the pool daily with lifeguards within the state guidelines, but campers will remain 6’ apart in the pool

  • Camp activities will be outside whenever possible with drink, mask and shade breaks built into the schedule.

Registration information, and many more details, will be forthcoming and communicated out by May 21st.  After May 21st, please email camps@tantasqua.org with any questions. Thank you.

Covid Letter 4/12/21

BURGESS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Positive COVID-19 Case:  Letter to All Burgess Families

May 12, 2021

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am writing to inform you that we were notified this afternoon that a member of our school community has tested positive for COVID-19.  All close contacts have been identified and contacted.  Our first responsibility is to keep our students and staff safe.  Our student body and staff have been closely adhering to the safety protocols, including mask-wearing, hand washing, and physical distancing.  We are grateful to our families for their continued efforts to keep students home at the first sign of symptoms.  These measures, taken in combination, greatly reduce the risk of additional transmission.

Please understand that we cannot provide specific information about our school community member who has tested positive.  Unless you were otherwise informed, your child was NOT a close contact of the affected community member.

To further prevent transmission of the virus to other staff and students, we have sanitized the school with a focus on those areas impacted by the community member that tested positive.  Because of the protocols we have in place in an effort to decrease the spread of the virus, the school schedule will continue as planned.  This news of a positive case reminds us all why it is so very important for all of us to continue to follow safety protocols both at school and outside of school.  We also greatly appreciate your close communication with the Health Office regarding your child’s health and your support in keeping your child home if they are experiencing symptoms of illness.

For more information on COVID-19 symptoms and testing, visit https://www.mass.gov/info-details/about-covid-19-testing#where-can-get-a-test?-.

You can also find a map of testing sites at https://memamaps.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=eba3f0395451430b9f631cb095febf13. Please contact us immediately should you or someone in your home begin to show symptoms.

We are committed to providing timely and transparent communication with all of the members of our school community regarding any situations related to COVID-19 that affect our students and staff.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Principal Pelley at pelleyk@tantasqua.org or Nurse Meunier at meunierl@tantasqua.org.  Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Pelley, Principal                                                                    Lisa Meunier, BSN, CSN, M.Ed

POOLED TESTING EMAIL FROM LISA MEUNIER – 04/29/2021

A message from BURGESS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STURBRIDGE

Dear families,

We tested 88 individuals at Burgess yesterday who had a signed consent form to participate in the pooled testing.  We are excited to report that all of the test results were negative! These included students grades K-6 and several staff.  All of our test results have been negative since we started on March 16th!
The Health Office received many phone calls and emails from parents asking for recommendations, reporting negative COVID tests after traveling or asking that their child participate in the pooled test.  These were all much appreciated and we have been thrilled with the parent and family support during this complicated school year.
Thank you,
Lisa, Tara and Lydia
