Congratulations to Ms. Forni’s 5th grade class at Burgess Elementary School for beating out 1000 other entrants for one of the twelve coveted spots on Massachusetts DOT snow plows. The class came up with the slogan that was selected by Mass DOT staff. This truck is officially designated the “Snolar Express.” We were joined today in Sturbridge with Amanda Hellier from Senator Fattman’s office to bring citations on behalf of Senator Fattman and Representative Smola, along with the Massachusetts Secretary of Transportation, Monica Tibbits, and Sturbridge Selectwoman Mary Dowling. Thank you to Principal Kathy Pelley and Assistant Principal Paul Guerin for hosting! And a thanks to the Mass DOT team who had the truck sparkling and ready for the first of the twelve awards statewide!

Hello Bears!
We have begun our BIGGEST fundraiser of the year. It’s time to get Movin’ and to do your part to help us with our Jog-a-Thon campaign! Our goal is to raise $60,000 to provide improvements to our playgrounds, sun shades, and continue to support field trips and enrichments for our students.
Melissa Briggs Photography has generously donated a $200 gift card to be raffled off to the staff/teachers at Burgess.
…and the winner is Michelle Capaldi!!! Congratulations Ms. Capaldi!!!

Good afternoon Burgess families,
I would like to express my sincere appreciation for everyone’s understanding, flexibility, and cooperation over the past few days as we adjusted plans in response to the events in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday. We are heartbroken by the reality of another horrific mass shooting at an elementary school. Please know that Burgess has safety procedures and protocols in place that are reviewed regularly in collaboration with law enforcement and other agencies. As you will recall, we conducted a lockdown/evacuation drill on November 15, 2021. At that time, teachers reviewed procedures with students in developmentally appropriate ways. We will convene our crisis team to go over our plans as we learn more about this latest shooting. Thank you to the Sturbridge Police and Fire Departments for being present on campus this week to reassure our students, families, and staff. We thank the entire Burgess staff for their hard work and dedication as they always put the needs of our students first. Burgess psychologists, adjustment counselors, school resource officer, and administrators continue to be available to those in need of support. Our thoughts continue to be with everyone impacted by the tragedy. Below are some links to information that families may find useful:
