Hello Burgess Bears!
I am currently participating in the Breathe for Change SEL and 200 hr yoga teacher certification course. Breathe for Change was designed for educators to use mindfulness and yoga techniques, along with social emotional learning to help teachers and parents be at their best so that we may help our students achieve their best. Please follow the link for more information about Breath for Change.
As part of my course work for Breathe for Change, we are asked to design and lead a yoga session as well as organize and facilitate discussions on social emotional learning with students, teachers, administrators, and our community.
WIth that, I invite you to join me for Family Yoga Night and Lessons with Mr. Corthell.
Family Yoga Night
Starting this Friday, May 6th, I invite all of our Burgess students and their families to join me for Family Yoga Night from 6:30 – 7:30 in the Burgess Elementary school Upper Gym. Here we will learn and practice yoga and meditation exercises that we can all use to help us be more mindful in our daily lives. All skill levels are welcome.
Please remember to dress comfortably and bring:
-
A yoga mat, blanket, or towel
-
A water bottle
-
Any yoga props that you may need (yoga blocks, pillow, blanket, bolster, strap)
**Family Yoga Night will be held on: Fridays May 6, May 20, May 27, and June 3**
Lessons with Mr. Corthell
Then on Monday, May 9th, I invite all of our Burgess parents, guardians, and caregivers to join me for Lessons with Mr. Corthell from 6:30 – 7:30 in the Burgess Elementary School Library. In Lessons with Mr. Corthell, we will discuss social emotional learning, what it means to be human, and how we can become our best so that we may help others become their best. This is a version of the lessons that I currently teach to our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students.
**Lessons with Mr. Corthell will be held on: Mondays May 9, May 16, May 23, and June 6**
To sign up for either or both events, please follow the link or scan the QR code. If you have any questions please email me at corthelld@tantasqua.org. I look forward to seeing you there! -Mr. Corthell |

“Dear Community Members,
My name is Erin Parker and I am a senior at Tantasqua High School. I am continuing my community service project called the One Plant Project. Its goal is to provide local food banks with fresh produce. Last year we collected more than 1,200 pounds of food.
This year, I have partnered with the Sturbridge Senior Center to grow plants for distribution. We are looking for people to participate by growing a vegetable plant from a seedling or seeds in the hope that you will donate the produce it creates back to us. We will then distribute it to the Tantasqua area food banks. If you are interested in signing up or have questions visit:
