Fall Fundraiser Hiatus

The fall season is a hectic time of year for Burgess families. With so many community organizations currently running their fall fundraising drives, you might feel overwhelmed with all the requests and wonder “Where does my donation actually go?” Thanks to your continued generous support, your Burgess PTO has raised more funds than expected, and we are rewarding our families by taking a “vacation” from our annual Fall Fundraiser this year. Rest assured, your donation dollars are already hard at work and are directly supporting YOUR children. We will also be investing the proceeds from our banner year right back into Burgess with some exciting new projects on the horizon.

As always, we thank you for your support! We always welcome new volunteers to join us in running the wonderful programs that the PTO provides for your children. To get involved, join us at an upcoming PTO meeting.

The PTO spends $34,500 annually to enrich and improve the educational experiences of our children. Please take a look at how your contributions directly impact your children, and learn how our budget is allocated:

Cultural Arts: The PTO pays for the Cultural Arts Assemblies that your children enjoy throughout the school year. Some recent examples are:

  • The Berkshire Hills Music Academy Troup Performance: music and diversity theme
  • Art of Inspiration with Richard Hight
  • Boston Science Museum visit: Animal Habitats, States of Matter, and Electromagnetism
  • Tony Vacca’s World Rhythms: music, math, and diversity themes
  • Ellis Paul Heroes: Literature, History, and Music themes
  • And many more!

Teacher Stipend & Appreciation: The PTO provides almost $5000 annually in teacher reimbursements for our 83 teachers. These may include school supplies, classroom enrichment, student magazine subscriptions, and more. We also host an annual Staff Appreciation Luncheon to thank our Burgess Staff for their hard work and dedication.

Field Trips: Did you know that the PTO funds up to $5600 annually for our children’s field trips? Some recent examples are:

  • Plimouth Plantation
  • Junie B. Jones and Charlotte’s Web play performances
  • Norcross Wildlife
  • The Freedom Trail
  • Springfield Science Museum
  • Ecotarium
  • Southwick Zoo
  • Davis Farmland
  • Old Sturbridge Village
  • Band field trip support

Reading Programs: The PTO helps to support our reading programs by purchasing books and sponsoring author visits.

Program Support: The PTO also funds the following school programs and needs:

  • Tree Bus visit
  • Musical enrichment
  • Technology improvements in the classrooms
  • Math & Science nights
  • Geography & Spelling bees
  • Playground equipment, repair, and improvements
  • Family Fun Night performance
  • Supplies for our Creative Pathways program
  • Yearbooks and Junior High agendas for all graduating 6th graders
  • Preschool graduation
  • Physical Education supplies such as new shin guards for the gym classes and contributing to repair costs for the electronic basketball hoop.
